That is assuming that every program is on that app manager and that the app manager itself doesn’t have issues.

I don’t know about you, but unless you’re downloading a programm made for Windows 95, you can install anything without any trouble on Windows. Meanwhile Linux needs you to run a bunch of commands every time and half the time the commands from the download page don’t work because they’re for some specific distro only and you gotta look up different ones.

On ProtonDB some people say they have it running with no issues. But there’s just as many saying they can either only run it with shit performance or can’t connect to servers / play online.

Sadly not everything from GitHub is in those stores yet.

I find the “it just works” line ironic.

Because that’s usually what Windows has going for it. Meanwhile any Linux distro I’ve tried so far has me search for how to install a specific thing and try 5 different results, because of course the command to copy&paste on the first few doesn’t work. Doesn’t help that most sites and people tell you to install software this way instead of using some software centre / app store where you just click on an install button.

There’s a conflict of interest between wanting people to think critically and then lying to them and only slowly letting them learn parts of a truth. In another example, you can’t have a democracy when all parties try to deceive the voters. That will damage the concept of democracy and the existing supposed democracy.

There is also the danger of falling your own rhetoric and propaganda. Prime example of this is how fascism was created. Mussolini actively engaged in nationalist pro-war propaganda as he thought the continued war would lead to the conditions necessary for socialist revolution. He wasn’t wrong about that as then revolutions broke out in several successors / breakaways of the Russian Empire, in Germany and in Hungary. But eventually he fell to his own propaganda and created fascism.

It’s crazy that this is legal.

The Soviet Union was established before the Nazis existed. There was no need to ally with anarchists against them when they didn’t exist yet and waged war.

A better example would be the Spanish civil war where communists, liberals and anarchists did fight on the same side until infighting broke out due to an ineffective and non-authorative government. Meaning they failed to establish a leading ideology which could have prevented this.

This is literal ruling class propaganda. No Marxist or Marxist-Leninist is against LGBT, thinks Nazis or nationalism has a point, claims Putin is leftist, etc.

The opposite is the case. What worked historically is organizing in an ideologically united platform.

Vanguard parties won revolutions. Ideologically diverse big tent organizations have always eventually broken apart and none has brought a revolution thus far.

And working with liberals has never been a good idea. They’re not a part of the left, they belong to a right wing ideology. That would be like saying we should work together with Nazis, because after all they have socialist in their name.

Proton did not only hand over data to the Swiss courts, but the French courts via that. They didn’t just comply with national laws, but those of other countries.

That contradicts their virtue signalled interest in privacy, when they’re willing to surrender any data without even putting up a fight. They did not even try to argue in courts against handing over private data. And considering this lead to the arrest of the activist, it either obviously wasn’t encrypted or Proton had the means to decrypt it on their end.

You can’t just link Proton’s own PR speak as a source to counter that. Of course they would defend themselves.

It’s not about the law, but what’s right to me.

Proton according to this post is virtue signalling. Claiming one thing, then doing the other.

No so does France. Proton helped convict a French environmental activist by providing the courts full access to their private proton account.

Yeah I know of those app stores. Sadly they don’t automatically include anything also found on GitHub. So not everything is on there.

In theory it’s always easy, but in reality there will always be some major issue. I’ve tried switching to Ubuntu twice many years ago and there was always something that didn’t work. One time it even bricked my Windows install.

Currently before actually installing it, I’ve installed Pop OS in a virtual machine. I wish I had the screenshot, but entering 4 different commands to try and install VLC player and getting an error that the command is unknown each time is degrading. A lot of the first results for installing software on Linux has commands or repositories that don’t work and you have to keep looking. It was the command on the official VLC website that didn’t work for me…
