You are correct. It’s been so long since I bought my license it feels like a lifetime. I checked the website and if you buy now it’s valid up to v8.99. That could be years from now. I bought my license in 2020 at v6.05. 6 years is extremely generous considering the software subscription environment we live in today.
Have you tried Reaper daw? I’ve been using it for years at this point. It has a free unlimited lifetime demo, or you can pay them $60 for a lifetime license.
There was something that happened a while ago that made all the tech influencers look kinda silly in regards to Linux. I’ll never forget this comment on one of the videos around the kerfuffle. ‘All these computer experts have just been downgraded to Windows influencers.’ It’s so true how they can tell you all the inner workings of a Windows machine and the moment they try Linux their expertise just falls apart.

It rings true but it’s not. It’s highly dependent on your upgrade plan. You can get a new CPU without a new mobo if you aren’t changing architecture like jumping from AM4 to AM5. The idea that only the cheap parts last the longest isn’t true either. I’ve been on the same GPU for nearly 7 years. It’s getting long in the tooth but when I do decide to upgrade I’m not forced to upgrade anything else. The GPU is the bottleneck but the bottleneck isn’t noticeable unless I’m playing some new AAA game that requires everything under the sun to run it.
That last paragraph about parts being 5 to 10 years taking up close to 0% of your build just isn’t true for me either. The newest parts in my PC are three years old at this point. The case, the CPU and Mobo, Ram and an NVME drive. The case was purely for vanity reasons. I got an old GPU, and old PSU, 1 NVME drive, 2 SSD drives, and 2 HDDs that are 10 years old. All those parts are older than 5 years. The argument that most people are using PCs that are less than 5 years old sounds like some phone FOMO shit. I don’t buy it.

It really is a problem. I don’t think I ever used another WM that broke config as much as Hyprland.
I switched around September. The learning curve is higher than Hyprland but not by much. Once you get used to switching layouts on the fly it really open up the workflow. Plus there’s no bullshit. I don’t know any of the devs. There’s no controversy. It’s just a window manager. It’s the closest thing to the pure bliss of BSPWM Wayland has.
