I find when I explain my Buddhist leanings that Atheists get confused and think I am an atheist who just likes lighting “prayer candles” for the lulz and that my talk of being reborn into the Pureland is some wacky metaphor.
If there wasn’t more to this than I should never have been born in the first place.
Basically… my reaction to hearing the good word of Atheism was to cling to New Age as hard as possible and believe the Skeptics were just miserable and calling anything inconvenient to their beliefs “Psuedoscience”

Now I’m a Buddhist and am learning to be cool with the temporary nature of existence and am looking forward to rebirth in the Pure Land.
The Problem with New Atheism is that humans need hope and hope isn’t something Dawkins offers.

If you ever watch copaganda shows, you’ll see that the innocent are always anxious to talk to the cops, with tears in their eyes as the police comforting them, and the guilty are always the ones refusing to cooperate, saying they “know their rights”, and they’ll be lawyering up.
This is intentional, the system wants you to believe that your only hope is compliance and no questions asked. That a good citizen knows that the constitution is just a piece of paper, and the only trait worth having is blind faith in your betters. That the common man has only the right to obey, consume product, and reproduce so that he can be replaced on the assembly line when he grows too old.
If you are sickened by what I just said, hold onto that feeling, it means they haven’t completely gotten your soul yet.
Worse, they’ll phrase it like
“I’m going to search your car, is that alright?”
Like it’s a command, and you don’t register that it isn’t in time.

I love my friend and I’d stand up if his rights were being violated, I’m just horrified to realize he absolutely will not show me the same decency.

They were given a task, found a group for whom the task would be ideal in both their willingness and ability to do it, and presented this group to the task giver. They did not force a slave class, they didn’t do a lottery, they didn’t see it as a chance to get rid of undesirables, they just sent people who legitimately wanted to go.
There was no victim, thus there was no crime.
