  • It’s not the reason, but it certainly is a reason.

Another reason is. That it is an old protocol from the late 90s. And there isn’t a lot of Buzz about it these days. A lot of the problematic centralization we all now recognize was just becoming the norm.

Feature parity at the time is also another big hurdle. Things we all take for granted especially in this day and age Avatar profile pictures etc. Jabber/xmpp did not have that for years. It may be a useless feature in terms of sending messages. people still like personalization etc. And it’s hard to convince people to switch if they have to give it up.

Jump to today. And arguably services like Twitter Mastodon Facebook Etc all sort of fill that Niche to an extent. Maybe not as well. But enough again that it’s going to be hard to get people to switch to yet another system

  • Then I hope to see you out in the next few days trimming the grass with tweezers. So we can all get a good chuckle. Take a lesson from the luddites. They didn’t destroy the Looms because they hated the looms. They destroyed the Looms because the owners sought to cut them out.

A tool is simply a tool. It isn’t good or bad. It’s fashy Tech Bros out for a quick buck that make it bad. Be mad at them. Not the tools. AI isn’t going to make it impossible or undesirable for us to create as we always have. Just the fash.

addendum Your value as a human shouldn’t be how useful your art is to someone else. Your art is valuable even if you’re the only one that appreciates it. And only fascists and other authoritarians will impeded your ability to create it. I for one welcome the day we see creations realized that couldn’t/wouldn’t have been realized other ways. Animations etc accelerated with better AI tweening algorithms etc. Allowing us to see truly unique even singular visions we wouldn’t have seen otherwise for example. Fuck the slop.
