I do too. I haven’t used it in about 10 years, and this is at least the fourth computer it has been in. Maybe I don’t need it anymore, but if I throw it away, then I’ll surely have to read a DVD.

YouTube pushes right wing content because right wing goals benefit their owners. I don’t know how you define “right wing company”, but what else would you call a company that promotes fascists and strictly polices leftists?
There’s way too much malice in the world to rely on pithy witticisms too heavily.
This is odd to say when the YouTube algorithm has been proven to push right wing propaganda.
The concept of “conspiracies” is a bit off. It’s not a “conspiracy” when Bezos kills the Washington Post’s endorsement of Harris, or fires journalists who criticize him. YouTube doesn’t need to remove a video if the algorithm never shows it to anybody.
It is kinda crazy to imagine a secret cabal of rich people who surreptitiously run the world, rather than the well known cabal of rich people who openly run the world.
It’s pretty accurate to say the wealthy like fascism if you look at how the wealthy keep trying to implement fascism. The Business Plot was an attempted fascist takeover of the United States, and the Trump regime was a successful fascist takeover of the United States. Both were bankrolled by the wealthy.
I’m not interested in defining the word fascist. The word has a definition and if some people use it incorrectly, that is not my concern.
I think when you talk about the “economy” you’re not taking into account income inequality. Economic crashes are great for the capitalist class. They get to buy everything at fire sale prices, and pay their workers pennies. Even if they have slightly less “wealth” than they might, they have enormously more power (which locks in more wealth during the “recovery”).
We have never ever ever dealt with white supremacy.
We have made some cursory nods towards helping minorities survive in a white supremacist state, but there has not even been a concerted effort to try to end white supremacy.
This is a technology forum. If the article is relevant here at all, it’s because of Microsoft. A better argument could probably be made that the article shouldn’t be here.
Can you define “compressors” here? (Google was unhelpful.)

AI in the hands of moron CEOs is bad. (And they’re all morons)
LLMs can be useful in extremely limited circumstances. The problem is that idiots like this are going to use them to replace employees and consumers will receive worse products and services because of it.
Good ol’ Murphy. The Hammurabi of the internet.
I’m not sure how to explain the concept of walled gardens to people who grew up with four websites. In the 90s, most software was “shareware”, you could try it out for as long as you wanted, but businesses were expected to buy licenses.
MS used it’s dominant operating system to drive web browser competitors out of business. This is illegal. The whole concept of capitalism is built around competition, but MS used it’s power to stifle ’ innovation. The Clinton administration beat MS in court, then the Bush Administration dropped the case before the appeal was heard. If they hadn’t done that, instead had broken up Google, Meta, Apple, and the lot of them, the world would be a lot different now.
MS abused its monopoly in the 90s. The Clinton administration was too lenient, then the Bush admin kowtowed completely. Now, there’s largely no chance for another operating system to compete.
